Home / Dehumidifier Buying Guide

The Benefits of Owning a Dehumidifier

Too much moisture in the air negatively impacts personal comfort, as humidity worsens health conditions like allergies and asthma. Excess humidity can damage household goods like wood furniture, electronics, books and clothing. Excess moisture can also cause mold and mildew to build-up while peeling wallpaper, warping wood, blistering paint as well as creating musty odors. A dehumidifier helps maintain an ideal relative humidity level in the home (RH level) which during summer months is recommended to be at 50 % RH, or less, and in winter months as low as 30 % RH.

Selecting the Right Dehumidifier

When selecting the right dehumidifier there are three main factors to consider......first is the area you wish to dehumidify (see guide below), second is the method in which you remove the water that is collected in the unit during operation, and third is the energy performance of the unit. For water removal method, all AeonAir Dehumidifiers offer option to collect water in the internal bucket or can be direct drained to existing floor drain as well several models offer our patented pump removal system. In relation to energy performance, all AeonAir Dehumidifiers are Energy Star rated so you are getting a unit with best in class energy performance.

Understanding Area to Dehumidify

The first step is to understand the total area you wish to remove moisture from in square feet. Dehumidifiers are rated by pint removal capacity every 24 hours and the following suggested guide will help you chose the right capacity model for you:
